The Origin of the Ham Radio

The ham radio is also known as amateur radio; it dates back as far as the early 20th century.

The ham radio is used by novices of all sorts for activities including: self training, wireless communication, recreation of all sorts, and other non-commercial message exchanges.

Amateur ham radio users are specifically use for personal interest; this is a distinct difference from commercial users like emergency personnel, public safety workers, and other two way radio users for occupational purposes.

Ham Radio Licensing Requirements

In order to be a safe and knowledgeable ham radio operator, you must be licensed.  Ham radio operator fall under the Federal Communications Commission Act of 1934 for amateur radio; where it is regulated.  In the United States an amateur radio operator’s license is good for 10 years.  There are no regulations against anyone holding an amateur radio license as long as you are a citizen of the United States.
